Notifications
Push notifications per device, what triggers one, and how to turn them on or remove a device.
Push notifications alert your phone or laptop about an email, even when Jade isn't open. Jade sends an alert only when a matching rule has Send a push notification enabled. You can receive alerts in a browser, an installed Jade web app, or Jade for iPhone. The iPhone app icon's unread badge updates separately, without a notification rule.
Enabling notifications on a device
Notifications are subscribed per device. Your iPhone, laptop, and tablet are separate subscriptions, and each one must be turned on explicitly.
- Open Notifications on the device you want to enable
In a browser or PWA, go to Settings → Notifications. In Jade for iPhone, open Settings → Notifications. Both screens list every device already subscribed to the account.
- Choose "Enable notifications"
Your browser or iPhone shows its own permission prompt. Allow it. If you deny the prompt, use that browser's settings or iPhone Settings to allow Jade before trying again.
- Confirm the device is subscribed
Once permission is granted, the device appears in the subscribed-device list, such as "Chrome on macOS" or "Jade on iPhone."
On iPhone, a notification sometimes arrives without its preview and just says "New Jade email." Opening it always shows the full message.
What triggers a notification
A matching rule with Send a push notification enabled triggers an alert when mail arrives or when you choose Reprocess. Jade attempts this action once per email, even if several notification rules match. That attempt can notify every eligible browser, installed web app, and Jade for iPhone installation where you've enabled notifications. Reprocessing doesn't repeat an earlier attempt, even if no alert reached your devices. The iPhone badge is separate: it tracks your unread count automatically and doesn't need a rule.
Removing a device
The Notifications screen lists each subscribed device. Select the remove button on the device's row to stop that device from receiving notifications. A removed iPhone does not silently turn itself back on just because system permission remains allowed. To subscribe it again, open Notifications on that device and choose Enable.
