# Sending email Compose a message, pick which address it goes from, save drafts, reply to a thread. Source: https://jade.email/help/sending-email/ Open Compose from the sidebar to write a message. You can reply to a thread, send from any address you own, or start fresh from an address you've never used before. ## Picking which address it comes from The composer's **From** control has two parts: - The **local part** is what goes before the `@`. You can type anything; you don't need to pre-create it. As you type, Jade suggests matching inboxes that have received mail before. Pick one to fill it in, or keep typing your own. - The **domain** is picked from a dropdown of your verified domains. The From control has two parts: The left field is a free-text local part you can type any address into, including a brand-new one, with suggestions from inboxes you have used. The right field is a picker of your verified domains. The two combine into the sending address shown below. The local part is free text. The domain is a picker. Sending a never-used address is normal. You can type a local part that doesn't exist as an inbox yet. The recipient sees mail from `whatever@yourdomain.com`, and any reply comes back to that address. Sending doesn't create the inbox on its own. It appears in your list when the first message *arrives* there, which for a brand-new address usually means the recipient's reply. Until then the address works fine; it just isn't in your inbox list yet. The composer remembers the local part and domain you last sent from in your browser, so the next time you compose on the same device the fields are pre-filled. Only verified domains can be selected A domain that isn't ready for sending doesn't appear in the From dropdown. If a domain you expect isn't there, check Settings → **Domains** to see what's blocking verification. The [Domains and DNS](https://jade.email/help/domains.md) guide explains the verification states. ## Recipients Enter recipients in the To, Cc, and Bcc fields as chips, one address per chip. Cc and Bcc stay hidden until you reveal them. As you type, Jade suggests people you've written to before, so you can pick one instead of retyping the address; the ones you've written to from the address you're sending from come first. To finish an address, type a comma or semicolon, or press Return. To remove a recipient, select the chip's remove button or press Delete from an empty field. If an address isn't a valid email, its chip turns red and Jade lists the addresses to fix before you send. On iPhone, the To, Cc, and Bcc fields collapse finished recipients into a compact summary; tap the summary to edit the chips. Use the contact button beside any recipient field to search Apple's contact picker and select one exact email address, then reopen the picker to add another. Jade doesn't request access to your address book; it keeps only the email address you explicitly select and adds it to the draft. ## The body The composer is rich text, with bold, italic, lists, and links. You can also paste in formatted text from another source and it'll be cleaned up before send. In the web composer, paste a screenshot or drop a PNG, JPEG, GIF, or WebP file where you want an inline image. Uploaded images stay in place when you reopen the draft. To attach an image as a separate file instead, use the paperclip button. Attachments and inline images share the same limits: **7 MB per file, 7 MB combined, and up to 10 files.** ## Replying When you reply to a message, the composer pre-fills: - **To** with the other side of the conversation: the original sender if you're replying to mail you received, or the people you addressed if you're following up on a message you sent. - **Subject** with `Re:` prefixed. - **Body** with a quoted excerpt of the original beneath your cursor. - **From** with the inbox the conversation belongs to, so the reply goes out from the same address the rest of the thread used. That last one matters. If your dentist wrote to `dentist@yourdomain.com`, your reply goes from `dentist@yourdomain.com`, not your account default. The recipient never sees an inconsistent address. **Reply all** appears when a message reached other people besides you. It addresses everyone who was on that message, leaves your own inbox off the list, and fills in the Cc field. Some senders ask for replies at a different address than the one they wrote from. When a message carries that kind of reply-to address, your reply goes there. You can reply to your own sent messages too, the way other mail clients let you. It keeps you in the same thread and still addresses the other side, so a follow-up before anyone has written back stays part of the same conversation. ## Drafts The composer saves your work in the background while you write. If an inline image is still uploading or its upload failed, saving and sending pause until it finishes or you remove it. Choose **Retry** to upload it again, or **Remove** to continue without it. Closing or refreshing the tab cannot preserve an image that hasn't uploaded. When you leave the composer, whether by **Close**, a click elsewhere in Jade, or the back button, Jade asks once what to do with your work: - **Save draft** keeps the latest version. - **Delete draft** removes it permanently. Drafts skip the trash. - **Cancel** puts you back where you were. A new, reply, or forward composer you haven't touched closes without prompting, so glancing at a reply never leaves a draft behind. Sending a draft removes it from the list once the message goes out. Drafts live under Drafts in the sidebar, most recently edited first; clicking one reopens it in the composer right where you left off, including reply and forward context. Drafts work across the web, the Jade iPhone app, and your connected mail apps: a draft you start in any one appears in the others. Inline image authoring is available in the web composer; the iPhone app sends retained images as ordinary attachments. On iPhone, open **Mail → Drafts** to see every draft's sending address and use its red trash button to delete it. Offline edits stay protected on that iPhone and sync when a connection returns. A draft written in another mail app may lose some complex formatting when edited in Jade. The composer notes this when it applies. ## Sending and the Sent list Delivery normally completes within a few seconds. Outgoing mail appears under Sent as a flat, newest-first list. To delete a sent message, open it and choose **Delete**. It moves to Trash, where you can restore it for 30 days; restoring returns it to Sent. ## Sending offline on iPhone The iPhone app saves a protected working copy as you edit and synchronizes the same shared draft after you pause. If you send without a connection and the message has no newly uploaded attachments, Jade places it in **Settings → Outbox**, where it shows an "In Outbox" status while it waits for a connection. If the connection drops mid-send, the app tries again safely, so you never get a duplicate. While Jade is still confirming a send, the message stays in Outbox so the app cannot accidentally turn an uncertain send into a duplicate. If a message needs attention after a failed attempt, you can remove it to stop further attempts; a send Jade already accepted or started cannot be recalled. New attachments can't be added offline. The app keeps the file and asks you to retry the upload once you're back online. **Outbox** contains unconfirmed messages; **Sent** contains messages Jade has accepted.
